About UNIX

tux_logo_1UNIX and also Linux, Solaris (OpenSolaris), AIX and all other UNIX like operating systems can be very hard to operate if you encounter them the first time. Afer some time it becomes more easy to operate them and you get to know your way around the system. However, even the most experienced terminal guru uses the manual pages every now and then.

On the command line of your terminal you can enter the man command followed by the command you want some more information about. However when you are not at a terminal (strange situation) you might want to check some information about a command. You can find a lot of the manual pages online. We have provided a simple search engine with some help from some people from the University of Alabama. The University of Alabama is running currently a server with man-cgi which provides a link from the command line man command to the web.

By using this we have now the option to show you some of the Solaris manual pages. You can use the search field below to get your manual page.
