100% of 50% to Linux switch

As some people may know I did a switch from windows to Linux at my previous employer and was very happy with it. After some troubles I had running all the tools I needed on a Ubuntu instance running on top of a Dell laptop.
Now I have spend the past time working at my new employer and have currently 2 laptops. Both are running windows vista and even do I do some tricks with Cygwin and virtualbox it is not satisfying me. So I made a decision. I will try again to switch to linux and see how this will end up.
The main issue is currently however that I use a lot more tools at my current employer. At my previous employer I could do most of my work via a shell however my current employer has a lot of tools running on windows only and I will have to find a way around it. Also I do visit customers who have windows applications from time to time so I have to make sure I can also run those applications. A lot of wine will be involved to get things done.
Even do it will be some challenge to get windows free I will start with one laptop first and then go forward to the other. I just recently found out we have a small community of people within the company who are trying to do the same as I am planning. Switching to Linux and we have a wiki running. A lot of reading and adding to the wiki will be my part for the upcoming time.
However, when it is done I will have the fun of running Linux only hardware in a windows dominated landscape again.
If you never used linux before it might not be advisable to dismiss Windows at once however some sites can be found with a lot of good information on this topic and they might be of interest to you if you planning to make the switch also.
